Jazzercise Comeback??

I wanna know...does anyone out there among our few readers Jazzercise??? There is a studio where I live and I am trying to fanagle a couple of the Junkies to come with me to try it {neither of which have given me a green light}! Maybe it's because it used to look like this... ...the quintesential 80's mom workout? I remember my mama doing it when I was about 4.

Supposedly, it is revamped. My young cousin-in-law asked me about it the other day. She said a lot of people in the Austin area are doing it. They even have Cheryl Burke of DWTS as a sponsor.
Well, heck, if everybody's doin' it--I shoud do it to! As always, I am up for a challenge, so I think I will drag my Junkies up to the studio and see what's it about! We will be posting a review after we visit! I am wondering if I should bust the leg warmers out...or at least tease my bangs a bit.

  1. I did it a few years ago, and it's so fun! (plus, I lost 2 pants sizes while doing it.) I would love to hear what you think about it! Go!

  2. It's TOTALLY different! For a while after college, I was going to a studio here locally and the intstructor is AMAZING-totally pumps you up and reminds me of when I taught cardio bootcamp at Gold's Gym in college. It's NO leg warmers, no tights, all of the latest pop-hip hop music! I LOVE IT! I go from time to time, becase I have some friends/family that still go and the instructor and I became friends. I also was able to visit a Jazzercise studio in North Houston and WOW-crazy, cool studio that was packed with women that ranged in age from 12-70! I still get the Jazzercise clothing catalog and I must say, even their workout clothes have improved and I'd actually sport them while I workout! Can't wait to hear how it goes over there, I'll have to tell our local instructor when you decide what ya think??! Also, here where I live, our local tv station will air Jazzercise videos-45min each at 8am and 4pm and sometimes If the kids are sleeping and I'm feeling a second workout, I'll do the video from tv! The music isn't as up to date, but still NO leg warmers :) and it's high-intensity cardio. FYI: My mom jazzercises here locally and they actually performed at the Houston Texans game last year-there were about 350 of them and they danced to "4 mintues" by Madonna/J.T!!

  3. Nicki, I've been following your blogs for awhile. We have some mutual Baylor friends (I've known Kimberly P's BU rooommates, Fran and Kelly, since preschool) and I just love reading about life in Waco! ANYWAY-- I've obviously never commented before but just had to on the subject of Jazzercise! I started doing it in high school (in NY State) because our local Y offered classes. Having taken dance classes a good portion of my earlier years, I loved the dance-ness of it. It is SO much different than straight aerobics, much more routine-y. (do you like these words I'm making up??!) Then after I graduated from Baylor, we moved to Elgin for a year and they had it there, and then we moved to Maryland where we've been for 8 years and there's a studio here I've been going to almost the whole time because I just can't find anything I like as well. Jazzercise is a COMPLETE workout with the cardio followed by 20 minutes of floor work and strength training. You're in and out in and hour and have worked pretty much all the muscle groups. I've also noticed over the years a real growth towards incorporating Pilates, yoga, kickboxing, etc, moves into the routines, as well. And while there still are some corny songs every now and then, the music is mostly really current and really fun! I can't wait to hear what you think! Take care! Emily Moore Kenton

  5. I live in a small town (in Illinois) and we even have Jazzercise...I love it!! I don't do it during the summer b/c of work, but I did it all last spring...The music is totally current: hip-hop, rock, jazz, and it is complete work-out! The more you push yourself, the better it works. And, it's great, b/c at our class you can modify anything if it's too difficult or something you can't do because of your health. I would recommend it!
